1 - God works to keep you away from
distractions
Neh 6:2-4 Sanballat and Geshem sent
me this message: "Come, let us meet together in one of the
villages on the plain of
Ono." But they were scheming to
harm me; so I sent messengers to them with
this reply: "I am carrying on a
great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I
leave it and go down to you?"
Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them
the same answer.
Prov 4:25-27 Let your eyes look
straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level
paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep
your foot from evil.
1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is
common to man. And God is faithful; he will
not let you be tempted beyond what
you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a
way out so that you can stand up
under it.
2 - God works to keep you away from
deceivers
Neh 6:10-13 One day I went to the
house of Shemaiah...who was shut in at his home. He said, "Let us
meet in the house of God, inside the
temple, and let us close the temple doors, because men are
coming to kill you-by night they are
coming to kill you." But I said,
"Should a man like me run
away? Or should one like me go into
the temple to save his life? I will not go!" I realized that God
had not sent him, but that he had
prophesied against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
He had been hired to intimidate me so
that I would commit a sin by doing this, and then they would
give me a bad name to discredit
me.
Prov 22:1 A good name is more
desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or
gold.
3 - God works to bring you to a place
of victory
Neh 6:15-16 So the wall was completed
on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days. When all our
enemies heard about this, all the
surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence,
because they realized that this work
had been done with the help of our God.
Ps 84:5-7 Blessed are those whose
strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage. As
they pass through the Valley of Baca
(weeping, tears, complaining), they make it a place of
springs...They go from strength to
strength, till each appears before God in Zion.
4 - God works to bring you to a place
of confession, worship, and praise
Neh 9:2-3,5 They stood in their
places and confessed their sins and the wickedness of their fathers.
They stood where they were and read
from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God...and spent
[hours] in confession and in
worshiping the LORD their God...And the Levites...said: "Stand up and
praise the LORD your God, who is from
everlasting to everlasting."
Neh 9:5-13 Blessed be your glorious
name...You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens...You give
life to everything...You are the LORD
God, who chose Abram...You have kept your promise because you
are righteous. You saw the suffering
of our forefathers in Egypt; you heard their cry at the Red
Sea.
You sent miraculous signs and wonders...You divided the sea... you led
them with a pillar of
cloud...You came down on Mount Sinai;
you spoke to them from heaven. You gave them regulations and
laws...that are good.
Neh 9:16-17, 26 But they, our forefathers,
became arrogant and stiff-necked, and did not obey your
commands. They refused to listen and
failed to remember the miracles...They became
stiff-necked...they were disobedient
and rebelled against you; they put your law behind their backs.
Neh 9:17 But you are a forgiving God,
gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in
love. Therefore you did not desert
them.
