God’s Path to Successful Living - #4

Sermon from cong readings in Prov 26-31  - June 10, 2007 – bk@kluth.org

Our ministry theme this year is Reaching beyond generations & walls

1 - Learn to speak truthfully to others

Prov 27:5-6 Better is open rebuke than hidden love.  Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.

Prov 27:9-10 The pleasantness of one's friend springs from his earnest counsel.  Do not forsake your friend and the friend of your father.

Pr 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

2 - Honor God as a citizen

Prov 28:4 To complain about the law is to praise wickedness. To obey the law is to fight evil.TLB

Pr 29:18 Where there is ignorance of God, crime runs wild; but what a wonderful thing it is for a nation to know and keep his laws.TLB

Rom 13:1-4 Obey the government, for God is the one who put it there. All governments have been placed in power by God. So those who refuse to obey the laws of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow..do what they say, and you will get along well. The authorities are sent by God to help you.

Prov 28:9 If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable.

3 - Address the sin in your life

Prov 27:12 A sensible man watches for problems ahead and prepares to meet them. The simpleton never looks and suffers the consequences.TLB

Prov 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

Prov 30:11-12 There are those who…are pure in their own eyes and yet are not cleansed of their filth.

Acts 3:17-19,20 Friends, I realize that what you did to Jesus was done in ignorance…Now turn (repent) from your sins and turn to God (to be converted, to be turned around in the right direction), so you can be cleansed of your sins. Then wonderful times of refreshment (revival, life, fresh winds, cool waters, recover your breath) will come from the presence of the Lord.

Prov 29:6 An evil man is snared by his own sin, but a righteous one can sing and be glad.

4 - Trust in the Lord

Prov 28:25 A greedy man stirs up dissension, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper (be anointed, be made fat, have an abundance).

Prov 30:5 Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Jer 9:23-24 This is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise man gloat (boast) in his wisdom, or the mighty man in his might, or the rich man in his riches. Let them boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD.

5 - Respect and honor marriage

Prov 31:10-12 A wife of noble character who can find?  She is worth far more than rubies.  Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.  She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.

Prov 31:30-31 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

What is God prompting me to do in response to this message?
