The Shaping of A Godly

Woman or Man – Part 4

From congregational readings in Proverbs 26-31, Jun 8, 08 – bk@kluth.org

1 - Learn about fools

Ps 53:1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."

Prov 12:15, 15:5, 18:2 The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice… A fool despises his father's advice; a wise son considers each suggestion…A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.

Prov 12:16, 29:11 A fool is quick-tempered; a wise man stays cool when insulted…A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.

Prov 10:23 Doing wrong is fun for a fool, while wise conduct is a pleasure to the wise.NLT

Prov 26:11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.

Rom 1:21-25 Although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools…Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity…They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator-who is forever praised.

2 - Learn about divine transfer of ownership

Prov 28:8 He who increases his wealth by exorbitant interest amasses it for another, who will be kind to the poor.

Prov 13:22 A sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous.

Eccl 2:26 To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God.

Job 27:16-17 Though [the wicked] heaps up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay,  what he lays up the righteous will wear, and the innocent will divide his silver.

Deut 6:10-12 When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you--a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant--then when you eat and are satisfied, be careful that you do not forget the LORD.

3 - Learn about prayer

Prov 28:9 If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable.

Luke 6:46-49 (Jesus said) "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.   But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."

4 - Learn about confession

Prov 28:13-14 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.  Blessed is the man who always fears the LORD, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.

1 John 1:7-10 If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin…If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
