Learning to
Get Along
In the Family
of God – Part 1
From congregational readings in 1 Cor 1-4, Jun 29, 08 – bk@kluth.org
1
Cor:1:2 To the church of God in Corinth, to those
sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours.
1 - Learn where your strength comes from
1
Cor:1:8-9 [God] will keep you
strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus
Christ. God, who has called you
into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.
1
Cor 1:18, 23-24
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are
perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God…we preach
Christ crucified…to those whom God has called…Christ the power of God and the
wisdom of God.
2 - Learn the importance of godly unity
1
Cor:1:10 I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our
Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be
no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and
thought.
Phil 2:4
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the
interests of others.
Ps 133:1
How good and pleasant it is when brothers live
together in unity!
3 – Learn to mutually respect godly leaders
1 Cor:1:11-13 My brothers, some
from Chloe's household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What
I mean is this: One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I
follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Cephas"; still another, "I follow Christ." Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for
you?
1 Cor
3:5-7 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants,
through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task.
I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made
it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God,
who makes things grow.
4 – Learn to labor for your own reward
1
Cor 3:8 The man who plants
and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to
his own labor. For we
are God's fellow workers.
1
Cor 3:10-15 By the grace
God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is
building on it…If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly
stones, wood, hay or straw, his work
will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will
be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. If what he has built survives, he will receive
his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved,
but only as one escaping through the flames.
5 – Learn to feed yourself spiritually
1 Cor
3:1-2 Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual
but as worldly — mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for
you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.
Heb
5:13-14 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an
infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food
is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Col 3:16-17 Let the word of
Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all
wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in
your hearts to God.
