What To Do All The Time

Psalm 103 - 4th sermon in a series in Psalms - Oct 26, 08 -  bk@kluth.org

Praise the LORD and don't forget His benefits...

Ps 103: 1-5 Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.  Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits-- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Benefit #1 - Forgiving our sins

Rom 3:23 All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Rom 6:23 The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ps 103:12  As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Mic 7:19-20 You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!

Benefit #2 - Healing our diseases

Ex 15:26 If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.

Isa 53:5 He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds (stripes) we are healed.

Ps 30:2 O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me.

1 Cor 15:42-44 Our earthly bodies which die and decay are different from the bodies we shall have when we come back to life again, for they will never die. The bodies we have now embarrass us, for they become sick and die; but they will be full of glory when we come back to life again. Yes, they are weak, dying bodies now, but when we live again they will be full of strength. TLB

Benefit #3 - Redeeming our life from the pit

Ps 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.  He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock  and gave me a firm place to stand.  He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.  Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.

Jer 38:6-13 They lowered Jeremiah by ropes into the cistern; it had no water in it, only mud, and Jeremiah sank down into the mud...Then the king commanded Ebed-Melech the Cushite, "Take thirty men from here with you and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies." Ebed-Melech

took the men with him and went to a room under the treasury in the palace. He took some old rags and worn-out clothes from there and let them down with ropes to Jeremiah in the cistern. Ebed-Melech said to Jeremiah, "Put these old rags and worn-out clothes under your arms to pad the ropes."

Jeremiah did so, and they pulled him up with the ropes and lifted him out of the cistern.

Benefit #4 - Crowning us

Ps 103:13 [God] is like a father to us, tender and sympathetic to those who reverence him. TLB

James 1:12 Happy is the man who doesn't give in and do wrong when he is tempted, for afterwards he will get as his reward the crown of life that God has promised those who love him.TLB

Benefit # 5- Satisfying our desires

Ps 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Isa 40:31 Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
