Everyone’s Path to Pleasing God

Sermon from cong. readings in Exodus 28-38  Feb 15, 2009  bk@kluth.org

Know who you are serving

Ex 28:2-3 Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron, to give him dignity and honor.  Tell all the skilled men to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest.

Ex 28:40-41 Make tunics, sashes and headbands for Aaron's sons, to give them dignity and honor.  After you put these clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint and ordain them. Consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.

1 Peter 2:9-10 You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Know that you must be covered in the blood to serve the LORD

Ex 29:19-21 (The LORD said) "Take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. Slaughter it, take some of its blood and put it on the lobes of the right ears of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Then sprinkle blood against the altar on all sides. And take some of the blood on the altar and some of the anointing oil and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments. Then he and his sons and their garments will be consecrated.

Isa 64:6 All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags.

Rom 13:14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

Know who has gifted you to serve

Ex 31:1-7 Then the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have chosen Bezalel…and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts--to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of craftsmanship. Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab…to help him. Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to make everything I have commanded you: the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the Testimony with the atonement cover on it, and all the other furnishings of the tent.

1 Cor 12:4-5 Now God gives us many kinds of special abilities, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service to God, but it is the same Lord we are serving.TLB

Col 3:17, 23 Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him….whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.

Know that you must serve by following instructions

Ex 39:1,5,7,21,26,29,31 (The work was done) “as the LORD commanded Moses.”

Ex 39:32, 42-43 So all the work on the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, was completed…The Israelites had done all the work just as the LORD had commanded Moses. Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the LORD had commanded. So Moses blessed them.

Heb 13:17 Obey your spiritual leaders and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they know they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this joyfully and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.NLT

2 Tim 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
