Building Strong Families

MotherŐs Day – May 10, 2009 – Dr. Brian Kluth -  bk@kluth.org

1-Make the WORSHIP of God part of your lives

Exodus 20:8-10  Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy (=dedicated,  set aside, consecrated). Six days a week are set apart for your daily duties and regular work, but the seventh day is a day of rest (=intermission, celebration, taking a break from daily duties) dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any kind of work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you.

2-Make the WORD of God part of your lives

Deut 6:6-9 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.  These commandments I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children.  Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

3-Make the WAYS of God part of your lives

Hebrews 12:7-11MSG  God is educating you; that's why you must never drop out. He's treating you as dear children. This trouble you're in isn't punishment; it's training, the normal experience of children. Only irresponsible parents leave children to fend for themselves. Would you prefer an irresponsible God? We respect our own parents for training and not spoiling us, so why not embrace God's training so we can truly live? While we were children, our parents did what seemed best to them. But God is doing what is best for us, training us to live God's holy best. At the time, discipline isn't much fun. It always feels like it's going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it's the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God.

Prov 22:6 Train up a child (=infancy through adolescence) in the way (=journey, path, direction) he should go and when he is old (=an aged, old person) he will not depart (=rebel, revolt) from it.

Prov 29:17 Discipline your son, and he will give you peace, he will bring delight to your soul.

4-Make the WORK of God part of your lives

Josh 24:14-15  "Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."

5-Make the WONDER of God part of your lives

Deut. 4:9CEV  You must be very careful not to forget the things you have seen God do for you. Keep reminding yourselves, and tell your children and grandchildren as well.

Psalm 147:4-6MSG  He counts the stars and assigns each a name.  Our Lord is great, with limitless strength; we'll never comprehend what he knows and does.  God puts the fallen on their feet again.

Mark 9:15  As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.
